Dear lifters and officials,
For the first time in IPF history we have more women than men who have nominated for a world championship event, that being in the upcoming World University Powerlifting Cup being hosted in Tartu, Estonia! It gives me and all of us in the IPF, great pleasure to see so many women coming forward to participate at the highest levels in our sport!
The International University Sports Federation (FISU) have been especially interested in promoting the participation of women in sport and accordingly I believe they will be pleased to see strong participation of women in Tartu, ahead of the IPF’s bid for the 2022 University World Championship.

With the final nominations in, we will see 218 student athletes from 70 universities competing in Tartu. Student powerlifters are some of the most enthusiastic and supportive of each other’s performances which makes for very exciting competitions with an energetic and positive atmosphere.  It is absolutely our desire to see the number of universities from more and more nations sending teams to compete at future University Championships, so we strongly encourage powerlifting students and universities to get involved!
To this end, this year we will be providing full IPF live-streaming of the University Cup, providing our customary professional coverage to be shared and enjoyed on social medias and YouTube. We trust that our global audience will tune in, be inspired and help us create an even bigger event in 2020.
We want to thank FISU for their trust and confidence in the IPF to produce excellent, high quality events for university athletes around the world.
Sincere thanks to the organizer of the 2019 University Cup and the Estonian Powerlifting Federation, we wish you good luck for a successful event.
Good luck and great appreciation to the student lifters who compete in this event and we hope every lifter achieves his or her goals.
See you soon in Tartu!
Best regards
Gaston Parage
