Powerlifting in University Sports

Dear members of the IPF,

The European University Sports Association (EUSA) attended the recent European University Cup in France and they are very excited to work together with us.  A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed with EUSA as we share a joint belief that university sport is the key for recruitment of new powerlifters and gives us a lot of opportunities to grow our sport.

It is a great honour for us to have been accepted by the International University Sports Federation (FISU) to take part at the first FISU World Powerlifting Championships next year in Moscow. We have worked very hard on this, and it has been always a requirement from the IOC Sports department to be recognized by FISU so this a significant achievement for us.

We will work with the Regional University Federations as well to make sure we become much more involved with university sport at all levels.  It is very important that our national federations recognize the importance of this and take responsibility for working with university sport on a national level. Our main partners are supporting us on this and can’t wait to see how our sport will grow in the future as a result.  Next year the European University cup will take place in Luxembourg in March and we hope that you will support us in taking this opportunity to showcase powerlifting as a university sport.

I would kindly ask you to focus on the university sport as it is the future for us, and it is everybody’s responsibility to do their part so that we can bring our sport forward.
