2024 World Classic and Equipped Bench Press Championships in Austin, USA

The 2024 World Classic and Equipped Bench Press Championships just concluded in Austin, Texas. It was a brilliant competition, with 818 athletes from 41 countries competing for world titles, world records, best lifter awards and team points. 120 hardy souls competed in both the classic and equipped competitions, giving us a total of 938 starts.

We had an innovative format at this event, with each day given over to one or two weight classes for both men and women. The masters lifted in the morning, the juniors and sub-juniors lifted in the afternoon and the open category formed the Prime Time sessions in the early evening. This gave a great mix of lifting every day, maintaining the excitement of the event, and the younger lifters got to rub shoulders with their heroes.

We would like to offer our thanks to Powerlifting America for hosting these championships and to Eleiko for hosting a training hall at their athlete village, as well as a great party and a phenomenal barbecue at the banquets.

Most of all, we thank the athletes for making the journey to Austin, and for putting on one of the best displays of bench pressing we have ever seen.  Thanks also to all the coaches, referees and volunteers - these events could not happen without you.
