Following the resignation of IPF President, Gaston Parage, the International Powerlifting Federation held an Extraordinary General Assembly (EGA) on 11th June 2025 to elect a new president.
With a majority of two-thirds of the votes cast, Sigurjón Pétursson was elected IPF President.
At the same meeting, Dietmar Wolf was elected as Vice President and Detlev Albrings as Treasurer. The three newly elected officials will serve the remaining period of two years before elections will be held again.
Mr Pétursson brings a wealth of experience in business leadership and 30 years experience in the sports administration and governance. He has a strong passion for powerlifting and a deep belief in the fight against doping in sports. He has also been involved for many years in the administration of Olympic sports and will strive for IOC recognition for the IPF.
Mr Pétursson said: We need to “Walk the Talk” with respect to our ideals of good governance, democracy, transparency, accountability, ethical and integrity standards, conflict of interest issues, anti-corruption and safeguarding. My life motto is “service above self” and I look forward to serving the IPF as its President.
