Powerlifting is back on the international stage

More than a thousand nominations for Classic Worlds in Sweden!

The 2021 IPF World Classic Powerlifting Championships will be held in Halmstad in Sweden, having been moved from Minsk in Belarus. Eleiko, long-standing partner of the federation, stepped in to help organise the event at their own headquarters in collaboration with the IPF.

Preliminary nominations are now complete and we have 1060 lifters nominated from 61 countries! Both the number of lifters and the number of countries are the highest ever for this championship, and so we are breaking records before the competition even begins.

Gaston Parage, IPF president: “I am happy and proud that after such a long time of no international competitions, we have such a powerful return to the international scene. Having more than 1000 lifters from over 60 member federations nominated is the best signal that powerlifting is stronger than any pandemic. Of course we will have our IPF COVID19 precautions in place and will work closely with the authorities in Sweden to guarantee the safety conditions for all participants.”

Eleiko’s CEO, Eric Blomberg: “What a fantastic response by the powerlifting community, eager to return to competition. Everyone at Eleiko stand ready to welcome more than 1000 athletes to our HQ in Halmstad. We are committed to making it a very special world championships.”
