It is with great sadness that I share with you today the passing of Professor Jose Monteiro, the President of the Powerlifting Federation in Portugal.
During 2020-2021, Jose was the driving force for re-establishing the sport of Powerlifting in Portugal. Jose was also the Director of IFBB Bodybuilding and Fitness in Portugal, where he served as an Elite Pro Judge, and was also responsible for sponsor relations and events.
Health and fitness was Professor Monteiro's passion, where he served on the Faculty of Human Performance and Kinetics, at the University of Lisbon, in Lisbon, Portugal.
In the short time he was with the IPF, and EPF, Jose made a huge impact with the sport of Powerlifting in Portugal. We will surely miss him -- his leadership and enthusiasm were incredible.
On behalf of the IPF Executive Committee, we send our sincerest condolences to Jose's family, his colleagues and students, and the many athletes he mentored in Portugal with both the IFBB, and the IPF.
May he rest in Peace.
