Dear friends,
It is with great sadness that we report to you the passing of Mr. Alan Ferguson.
Please take the time to honor and remember Alan Ferguson, a man whose strength was measured not only in the weight he lifted, but in the lives, he lifted around him. He lifted us all up.
Notably, Alan was the founder and first President of the African Regional Powerlifting Federation (APF). He was a long-time member of the IPF Executive Committee, as well as an IPF Category I Referee.
Alan served as President of the South African Powerlifting Federation and was inducted into the IPF Hall of Fame in 2016.
Alan was also an accomplished Athlete. He was a multi-time South African National Champion and four-time IPF World Masters Champion.
But the true measure of his strength was never confined to the platform. It was his volunteer service back to the sport. Beyond the barbell, Alan was a mentor, a teammate, and a friend. He offered encouragement without hesitation and advice without judgment. He celebrated others’ victories as enthusiastically as his own and carried himself with a steadiness that inspired confidence in everyone around him.
In a community built on strength, he brought unity. His legacy lives on in every lifter he encouraged, every friend he supported, and every life he touched.
Though the platform feels quieter without him, his example remains—a reminder to lift with purpose, to persevere with courage, and to support one another with unwavering devotion to our sport.
Rest in peace, Alan. We shall miss you.
The IPF Executive Committee
